Scott is a senior tax advisor in RSM’s Chicago-based national real estate industry practice focusing on consulting and compliance for a variety of real estate entities. With more than 10 years of niche experience in the real estate private equity space, Scott provides comprehensive tax services to a large range of real estate owners. Clients include, but are not limited to, real estate investment trusts (REITs), opportunity funds, joint ventures and family offices.
Scott has significant experience in federal and state tax consulting, structuring and compliance for real estate clients, and regularly consults on matters such as REIT suitability analysis, state and foreign withholding considerations and tax-exempt investor (UBTI) issues including fractions rule structuring and compliance. Additionally, Scott advises clients on the acquisition, development, and disposition of various real estate projects across a range of product types (multi-family, commercial, industrial, senior living, etc.) and the representation of clients before the IRS and other state taxing agencies.
