FINANCIAL REPORTING INSIGHTS |
Claire Blanton, RSM’s National Director of Independence, Compliance and Ethics, recently was appointed to the Professional Ethics Executive Committee (PEEC) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), with her term beginning May 26. This senior technical committee is charged with the responsibility of interpreting and enforcing the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct (Code). The committee investigates potential disciplinary matters involving members, presents a case before the joint trial board where it finds prima facie evidence of infraction of the bylaws or the Code, and interprets the Code and proposes amendments thereto. The Committee is composed of approximately 20 members who are appointed annually by the Chair of the AICPA Board of Directors. Committee members come from both inside and outside of the accounting profession, including public accounting, law, government, academia and industry.
With more than 25 years of public accounting experience in risk management and client service roles, Claire brings extensive knowledge and pertinent experience to PEEC. In her role as RSM’s National Director of Independence, Compliance and Ethics, she oversees the firm’s application of independence and ethics standards, CPE compliance practices, and compliance with state licensing requirements. Claire is deeply committed to proper adherence to professional ethics standards, and is passionate about educating practitioners regarding the many important, and often complex, ethical rules our profession must uphold.
