The RSM US-El Salvador office (RSM USE) was recently recognized by Employers for Youth (EFY), ranking in the top three on the list of "Best Companies for Young Professionals" in El Salvador. Coming on the heels of the RSM USE ten-year anniversary in September, the team has established itself as an employer of choice with a foundation for continued growth for RSM, its clients, employees and the community it serves.

"Being recognized as a top three 'Best Employer for Young Professionals' in El Salvador means that we are generating a real impact in the lives of our people, our clients, and our communities," said Carmen Martinez, managing director of RSM USE and an original team member. "At RSM, we know our people are unique, and we foster an inclusive environment that encourages everyone to be their authentic selves."

Top three employer for young professionals

This recognition measures the perception of employees based on 10 dimensions about their organization – from wellness to leadership and diversity to benefits. Ariana Herrera, HR manager for RSM USE, began the application process in August and was notified in early October of the results.

"We are a growing company, and we were was thinking about ways to get us more media exposure in our local market," said Ariana. "We had heard of EFY from other companies and with our young employee base, we definitely fit the profile to be a top employer."

With over 80 employees (of the 150 total employees at RSM USE) under 35, RSM is a firm that attracts young professionals. The 85-question survey was the first time RSM USE had been given that kind of data from an outside source. Whether RSM USE got a high-ranking or not, the information they got would help the firm continue to look for ways to improve the employee experience for our people in El Salvador.

"I am in that demographic (under 35) and been in my role for 6 months and I see for myself that RSM allows you to manage yourself and be creative and innovative with a balance of personal and professional," said Ariana. "We have created a great culture and environment where employees have an opportunity to grow personally and professionally."

Ten years in the making

Getting this kind of recognition does not happen overnight. The El Salvador office started in 2012 with five employees and has since grown to over 150. During that time, the team built a foundation where employees wore several hats and developed professionally with many team members starting as interns and associates. Now they are seeing the results of that initial hard work.

"We are seeing more structure with additional resources in HR and talent acquisition, which gives us a great foundation for the future," said Luis Quezada, director of technical services, and one of the original team members. "Beyond this recognition from EFY, we are seeing our reputation growing within the community and on social media. We are getting more employee referrals and applications."

For Carmen, what sets RSM apart is that employees are empowered to lead from where they are. Combining that with a caring and collaborative culture that is embedded in everyday activities, RSM genuinely fosters meaningful relationships centered on wellbeing and belonging.

"All the dimensions we were evaluated on are all part of our purpose: The Power of Being Understood," said Carmen. "It's also exciting that the recognition was announced on our 10-year anniversary of our journey to build this talented team. I am so proud to be part of RSM and of our amazing team in El Salvador!"
