Congrats to Alejandra Alanis, 2021 Flavio Castillo Award Winner

The ¡HOLA! employee network group (ENG) recently honored Alejandra (Ale) Alanis, a technology risk consulting manager in Los Angeles, with its sixth annual Flavio Castillo Excellence Award. The award was established in memory of Flavio, a partner in the financial services assurance practice in the Chicago office, who passed away unexpectedly in March 2016.
Flavio was instrumental in creating a vision for ¡HOLA! and worked diligently to advance the ENG's mission. Known for his passion for achieving excellence, Flavio worked to empower Hispanic and Latino employees with skills, relationships, and resources they need to grow their careers at RSM.
“Alejandra joined the firm as an experienced hire and since day one has demonstrated excellence in her roles as local ¡HOLA! leader, ALPFA Los Angeles board member, and now member of the ¡HOLA! Steering Committee,” said Crystal Sunbury, audit senior manager and ¡HOLA! Steering Committee Chair.
In his nomination of Ale, tax manager David Flores shared the impact Ale has had on ¡HOLA! and our LA office. “She has truly shined as a leader and a great example to the rest of the ¡HOLA! community. During the stress of the pandemic, Ale demonstrated her leadership qualities by uniting the LA office. Her events, while virtual, gave us the opportunity to remember that we have a strong family in RSM and a group of people that we could rely on.”
Alejandra’s commitment to excellence & community (or family) has much to do with her upbringing. Her parents immigrated to the U.S. in 1987 and started their journey by working in the fields. They picked apples, cherries, and cut asparagus for almost a decade. They eventually raised enough money to start a restaurant together. Although they are no longer together, they are both successful entrepreneurs.
“Both had an incredible work ethic and a vision for themselves and always operated from a place of gratitude,” said Alejandra. “Their story continues to inspire me. I had an incredible support system growing up and examples to lean on for inspiration. I know this is not the case for all and it’s one of the reasons that drives me to be part of ¡HOLA!. I want our ¡HOLA! members and allies to feel supported and empowered to take their career to the next level.”
Along with a $5,000 award to pursue her personal and professional excellence, Ale designated both the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the University of Washington ALPFA chapter as the charities to receive a total donation of $2,500.
Please join all ¡HOLA! members in congratulating Ale on her award!
