RSM US LLP Welcomes David Hudson to its Washington National Tax Practice

CHICAGO – (May 23, 2023) – RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – recently announced that David Hudson has joined its Washington National Tax practice as a Sr. Director with its Credits, Incentives and Methods team. In his new role, Hudson will assist clients with research and development tax credits and tax accounting method matters, including the treatment of costs under section 174 of the Internal Revenue Code.

“We are fortunate to have David join our Washington National Tax practice,” said Matt Talcoff, Washington National Tax leader with RSM US LLP. “With all the challenges the middle market is facing around the research credit and the continuous uncertainty around section 174, his vast experience and deep understanding of sections 41 and 174 will make him a valuable resource for our clients.”

Prior to joining RSM, Hudson spent nearly 30 years in public accounting where he held national tax leadership roles and advised telecommunications, pharmaceutical, aerospace, manufacturing, technology and other industry clients on a variety of business issues, including section 41 research credits, section 174 research expenditures, and other tax credit-related issues.

Hudson served as an attorney-advisor in the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service, where he was the principal drafter of regulations under sections 41, 174 and 280C. His professional experience also includes an adjunct professorship at the Georgetown University Law Center teaching coursework on the tax matters related to the development, transfer and exploitation of intellectual property. In addition, he was a frequent speaker at the American Bar Association’s taxation section, Tax Executives Institute and various other tax-related conferences. Hudson is also a published tax thought leader.

“Our Washington National Tax practice prides itself on its collective, in-depth knowledge of critical tax issues affecting various industries,” said Hudson. “I look forward to having an immediate impact by helping our clients gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with a variety of tax issues.”

Hudson received a B.S. from George Mason University, a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and an LL.M. in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center.
