Ayana has served as the national leader for RSM’s Abilities employee network group since 2019. Her interest in this group stems from the challenges and triumphs she experienced with her daughter, who has a mood disorder. Ayana recognized that the journey to acceptance and then celebration came from a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those who are differently abled.
RSM fosters a culture of inclusion, including supporting and empowering those who are differently abled or those who are caretakers of those with differing abilities. Under Ayana’s leadership, the firm is committed to focusing on recruiting, hiring and supporting those who are differently abled. Ayana has also expanded the firm’s commitment to the MS Society.
Prior to her Abilities national leadership role, Ayana was a member of the steering committee for the Washington Metro Office’s STAR ENG, RSM’s network group for women. As a member of the STAR steering committee, she provided coaching to women on business development and body language to empower them to own their future. A member of RSM’s African American Canadian Excellence (AACE) ENG, Ayana has also participated in panels discussing diversity topics at the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) national convention.
Ayana received the RSM Impact Award for the work she and the Abilities Steering Committee did to increase the outreach to employees who are differently abled.

The Abilities ENG educates RSM on the challenges and gifts of the differently abled by engaging with local groups in the community and educating on the needs in the office environment for inclusion into the RSM workforce. Abilities supports and attends events such as Disability:IN’s annual conference as well as activities throughout the U.S. that promote community service, professional development, education and promotion of hiring differently abled individuals. The team focuses on three main areas: cognitive, sensory and mobility.
