Environmental sustainability

RSM is dedicated to managing our business in a way that has a positive impact on the environment and in our communities.

We are dedicated to managing our business in a way that has a positive impact on the environment and in our communities.

While we have been promoting environmentally sustainable habits across our firm for many years, we are now creating a formalized policy and program to integrate environmental sustainability into our already robust focus on corporate social responsibility. We are working to formalize our objectives, metrics, key performance indicators and reporting practices to ultimately continue to better our firm, our people, our communities and our planet.

Serving our people and clients remotely

In 2020, our operations footprint and environmental impact were greatly reduced as the majority of our people pivoted to remote work, eliminating their daily commutes, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we emerge from the pandemic, we are committed to leveraging all we have learned, including continuing to offer remote working options and not returning to our former levels of business travel.

Our video conferencing tools enable our people and our clients to collaborate virtually, which reduces the need for travel and thereby our carbon footprint.

LEED® Certified Buildings

28 of RSM US’s office properties are LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified and internationally recognized by the green building certification system of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Paper reduction

As part of our focus on the environment, we are focused on reducing or eliminating our use of paper whenever possible, relying instead on electronic forms, digitized processes and apps to eliminate waste and physical storage needs.

Digitized annual reports

To reduce our use of paper, we moved to an all-digital experience for our annual reports, adding compelling interactive components and making them easily accessible for all stakeholders via our website.

Employee engagement

We support our local offices in their efforts to reduce their impact on the environment. Just one example is our Baltimore office’s B’more Green team, which has integrated environmentally sustainable practices into everyday office operations by removing all single-use cups from the office, saving an estimated 70,000+ cups per year.

This local program offers inspiration and insights into what changes our people are willing to make to become better stewards of the environment.

Environmental, social and governance practices

We strive to be the middle market leader in sustainable business practices that drive positive futures for our clients, colleagues, communities and firm.
