CHICAGO – (April 27, 2023) – RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – is pleased to announce it has taken significant actions to reflect the firm’s commitment to sustainability. The firm recently joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) initiative, a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible business practices; and signed on to the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) which promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.
The UNGC is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Launched in 2010, the Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 18,000 companies and 3,800 non-business signatories based in more than 160 countries and more than 65 Local Networks.
Jointly established by the UNGC and UN Women, the WEPs are underpinned by international labor standards and human rights and by recognition that businesses have an important role in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. Adopting these principles is the best way that businesses can deliver on the ambitions for gender equality and women’s empowerment as outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in the 17 SDGs.
“We congratulate RSM for taking the first step on their WEPs journey,” said Sima Bahous, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and executive director of UN Women. “We consider RSM a key colleague in closing gender gaps in the workplace, marketplace and community and in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.”
“With these recent actions, we’re proud to join thousands of other companies globally committed to taking responsible business steps to create a sustainable and inclusive future for generations to come,” said Brian Becker, managing partner & CEO with RSM US LLP. “Sustainability is key to advancing our society, achieving our business objectives and fulfilling our purpose to inspire confidence in a world of change.”
