AJ Mendibur started his RSM career in October 2012 as a commercial auditor for the Washington metro office (WMO) market and stayed with the firm until May 2017.

When AJ departed RSM, he left to pursue a consulting role for a middle market firm. He worked in their financial advisory service practice doing something quite different than the assurance work he was doing at RSM. AJ’s decision to leave RSM was simply a shift to explore other career opportunities since his benchmark was public accounting directly out of college. He did, however, stay in frequent communications with RSM partners and senior managers, particularly his career advisor, who always supported AJ as an employee and a friend.

During the winter of 2017, AJ returned to the RSM WMO as a supervisor in our commercial assurance practice. When we asked AJ why he returned, he resoundingly responded that he respected our culture’s theme and people from the associates to partners and the strong support system fostered by the national and local leadership—all attributes to the culture at RSM. Passion for the market and the relationships AJ built with his direct clients challenged him to become a strong client-server and mentor. While everything comes with challenges, including AJ’s return to RSM during the COVID-19 pandemic, one thing AJ was grateful for was how RSM’s leadership never loses sight of their people and maintains communication throughout the process.

"We are truly one firm at RSM, in which everyone’s contributions help shape personal and professional growth in our daily lives," said AJ.

Today, AJ is a senior manager in our commercial assurance practice and encourages everyone to continue viewing RSM from an enterprise perspective. He noted, "Specifically, experiencing how lines of business work collectively to provide exceptional service to our clients as first-choice advisors. We support each other across all service lines to become better professionals and excel in our careers. Those factors and others have encouraged me further in my ultimate pursuit of becoming an owner at the firm."
