RSM’s Josie Hammond Chairs AICPA Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel
RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – is pleased to announce that Josie Hammond, RSM’s national director of employee benefit plan services, was recently appointed as chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel (EBP EP). The EBP EP serves the needs of AICPA members on financial and business reporting and audit matters by bringing together knowledgeable parties in the employee benefit plans industry to deliberate on key issues.
“Josie has a vast understanding of all aspects related to employee benefit plan audit issues,” said Joel Shamon, national audit leader with RSM US LLP. “With more than 25 years of relevant experience, her background and knowledge further enhances our firm’s capabilities in bringing the most relevant insights and best possible service to our middle market clients. We’re proud of Josie as she assumes this important role with the AICPA, and we are confident that the panel and the profession will benefit from her experience.”
As the new chairperson of the AICPA EBP EP, Hammond will strive to encourage discussions on emerging trends and promote professional judgment in brainstorming practical solutions. An important part of the role includes also serving as a liaison with standard setters and regulators, such as the Department of Labor.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to help CPAs implement the new employee benefit plan standard and improve the quality of audits,” said Hammond. “The disruption of the current pandemic brings additional challenges and questions that we will assess as a panel. I’m looking forward to working with this panel to provide perspective and guidance on practice issues impacting employee benefit plans.”
As a member of RSM’s National Professional Standards Group, Hammond is responsible for monitoring audit and accounting issues that affect the firm’s employee benefit plan audit practice. She participates in the development of the firm’s positions on related proposed audit and accounting pronouncements. She also develops and presents professional education material, practice aids and tools to support the firm’s employee benefit plan practice. Hammond was integral to the development of the new reporting model for audits of employee benefit plans (SAS No. 136) by actively participating on the AICPA’s Auditing Standards Board (ASB) task force and participating at the ASB meetings. This standard is intended to improve the transparency of the auditor’s report and helps improve the employee benefit plan practice and quality across the audit profession.
