RSM Congratulates Austin Cook, winner of the 2017 RSM Classic

Grand total of $2 million raised for children- and family-focused nonprofits to date

RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market and title sponsor of The RSM Classic, is happy to congratulate PGA TOUR rookie Austin Cook, winner of the 2017 RSM Classic!

Cook closed with two birdies for a 3-under 67 and a four-shot victory. The victory Sunday gives Cook a spot in THE PLAYERS Championship, among others for next year.

Cook had a three-shot lead at the start of the final round at Sea Island. He made bogey from the bunker on the second hole and then didn’t drop a shot the rest of the day. Cook gave himself breathing room with a two-putt birdie on the 15th and a 150-foot birdie on the 17th. This was the second consecutive year a PGA TOUR rookie won The RSM Classic, following Mac Hughes’ win last year.

“What a thrill to have Austin join the RSM “family” as winner of the eighth annual RSM Classic, “said Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO of RSM US LLP. “The RSM Classic has become an integral part of the history of RSM, and we’re happy to add Austin Cook as a part of that history, joining Mac Hughes, Kevin Kisner, Robert Streb, Chris Kirk, Tommy Gainey, Ben Crane and Heath Slocum as a winners of The RSM Classic. Welcome to the team, Austin!

"RSM and the game of golf have a lot in common, not the least of which is a strong focus on stewardship,” said Doug Opheim, chief financial officer and chairman of the RSM US Foundation.

“The RSM Classic provides a national and international stage for RSM to give back to the communities where our people live and work through Birdies Fore Love, Youth Day and Military Appreciation Day. Through this year's Birdies Fore Love program, thousands of RSM partners, employees, clients and friends donated to charitable organizations across the country.  With a match from the RSM US Foundation, we were able to give more than $2 million to deserving organizations this year, bringing the grand total raised through the tournament to $9 million to date. And the numbers are still coming in.”

Also during this year’s tournament, RSM presented a check for $10,000 to Folds of Honor, a national nonprofit focused on providing educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.

“Having Folds of Honor as an integral part of this year’s tournament was a privilege,” said Bill Gorman, chief operating officer for RSM US LLP. “As the child of a military family, I understand the sacrifices made by those who serve, as well their families. Our Stars and Stripes employee network group, along with the rest of RSM’s 9,000 people, take great pride in supporting our nation’s veterans, and are humbled to be able to support the families of those who have been injured or lost their lives while serving our country.”

The 2017 RSM Classic included a concert by country music singer Jake Owen, a golf clinic for children and a putting contest with PGA TOUR professionals, Boys and Girls Club representatives and Special Olympics athletes, with RSM leaders serving as caddies.

Proceeds from this year's RSM Classic will benefit Special Olympics, the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia and other national and local charitable organizations aligned with the RSM US Foundation’s mission of building tomorrow’s middle market leaders by supporting organizations committed to providing a more stable environment for youth in the areas of education, hunger, housing and health.

"On behalf of RSM, I would like to thank the 1,100 volunteers who make The RSM Classic one of the highlights of the PGA TOUR year after year, said Adams. “Each year, residents of the Golden Isles and surrounding communities unite to support The RSM Classic. The tournament’s success, and our ability to give back to the community through the game of golf wouldn’t be possible without the support of our volunteers. We look forward to seeing them each year, and we’re already looking forward to 2018.”

The 2018 RSM Classic is scheduled for Nov. 12 – Nov. 18, 2018 at Sea Island, Georgia.
