Accounting Today Ranks RSM No. 5 on Top 100 Firms List

2017 marks the 11th consecutive No. 5 ranking

RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – was recently ranked as the fifth largest accounting, tax and consulting services firm in the U.S. for the 11th consecutive year by Accounting Today.

The publication’s 2017 special report indicates that the message of this year’s report is one of growth and moderation. Overall growth for the Top 100 was 8.80 percent, off slightly from last year, but still above the previous rate of roughly 8 percent. Most of the other metrics in the publication’s databank show a similar result – a moderation from last year, but still elevated somewhat from the four or so years before that. None of the moderation, however, obscures the fact that firms are continuing to grow, and to find solutions to issues that have plagued them in previous years.

Accounting Today says that staffing and succession planning are by far the most pressing issues for leaders of the Top 100, they seem to be getting a handle on it, with the number of firms reporting flat or declining partner counts down to 20 versus 32 last year. And while total employee figures might not have grown as much as in 2015, firms still found enough people to increase staff by more than nine percent.

2016 RSM activities highlighted in the special report include the:

  • Celebration of the firm’s 90th anniversary,
  • Launch of the RSM US Middle Market Business Index (MMBI),
  • Merging in of San Antonio’s Padgett Strateman, and
  • Opening of new offices in Detroit, Tampa, Florida and New Jersey.

In 2017, with the potential for massive deregulation and the most sweeping tax reform since 1986 on the horizon, regulatory and policy changes are top of mind for RSM this calendar year, according to the report. While details are still forthcoming, RSM believes there will be a business uptick resulting from deregulation early in the year, followed by tax reform and infrastructure spending. Helping clients understand and navigate these changes is a priority for the firm.

“Being ranked No. 5 on Accounting Today’s annual list is a continued honor for all of us here at RSM,” said Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO for RSM US LLP. “We take great pride in our approach to serving our middle market clients by seeking first to truly understand their needs, and by then bringing innovative and customized solutions to help them achieve their unique business goals and objectives.
