To serve as chairman beginning October 2012
BOSTON, MA – Richard Caturano, office managing partner – Boston for McGladrey & Pullen, LLP, was elected by the AICPA Council to a one-year term as vice chairman of the board of directors for the AICPA (American Institute for Certified Public Accountants). After completing his one-year term as vice chairman, Caturano will become chairman in October 2012.
Founded in 1887, the AICPA is the national professional organization of CPAs in the U.S., with more than 370,000 CPA members in 128 countries in business and industry, public practice, government, education, student affiliates and international associates. It sets ethical standards for the profession, and U.S. auditing standards for audits of private companies, nonprofit organizations, federal, state and local governments. It also develops and grades the Uniform CPA Examination.
"The founding of the AICPA established accounting as a profession distinguished by rigorous educational requirements, high professional standards, a strict code of professional ethics and a commitment to serving the public interest," said Caturano. "I have been involved with the AICPA through various committees for years. I'm honored to be selected to serve in this important leadership role, and I am looking forward to serving as chairman next year."
"We have strong standards and high expectations for board level positions within the AICPA," said Robert Harris, chairman of the AICPA Nominations Committee. "Richard's professionalism, level of expertise, and his continuous involvement in the profession make him an ideal candidate, and we look forward to his leadership over the next two years."
"Richard's leadership has made a positive impact at McGladrey since July 2010 when we acquired Caturano & Company, a firm that he co-founded," said Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO of McGladrey & Pullen. "Under Richard's leadership, Caturano & Company experienced unprecedented growth as he led the team in their efforts to understand clients' needs and to exceed their expectations. But most of all, Richard is known for his high ethical standards and unwavering sense of commitment to the profession. All of these attributes, combined with his extensive experience with the AICPA will make him a strong leader for the industry through this important leadership role."
Caturano has served as chairman of the AICPA's Private Companies Practice Section, chairman of its Finance Committee, and as a member of its governing Council and the Special Committee on Mobility. He is a member and past president of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, and has received numerous professional recognitions including being named by Accounting Today as one of the "100 Most Influential People in Accounting" for four consecutive years, and being recognized by Winning Workplaces as one of the "Best Bosses" nationwide.
