CHICAGO – (June 29, 2022) – RSM US LLP (RSM) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – is pleased to give back to the community through the firm’s biennial owners’ meeting. During the event, RSM’s owners and other attendees packed and donated 1,300 backpacks for Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada and raised $265,795 for more than 90 deserving nonprofits nationwide and in Canada through a 5K walk/run along the Las Vegas strip. Organizations benefitting from the efforts include local school districts, Boys and Girls Clubs, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity and many others.
Philanthropic efforts such as these have become an integral part of RSM’s biennial owners’ meetings, providing the firm’s leaders with opportunities to support the local communities where these meetings take place.
“At RSM, stewardship has been one of our core values since our firm was founded 96 years ago in 1926, and it continues to be a key focus for us today,” said Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO with RSM US LLP. “When our owners come together every other year to discuss the business and related issues, we’re compelled to incorporate a philanthropic component that allows us to support the local community – as a way of thanking them for hosting our event. This year, we are thrilled to give back to Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada and other deserving charitable organizations through our biennial meeting.”
“Like our name suggests, Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada relies on an amazing network of nonprofit partners and donors like RSM that support our mission to do whatever it takes to ensure our kids stay in school,” said Debbie Palacios, executive director, Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada. “Helping our students overcome barriers and challenges to learning truly takes a village, and we are grateful to RSM for its generous gift of backpacks that is perfectly timed as we are already preparing to help students as they return to school in a few months.”
“The mission of the RSM US Foundation is to help build tomorrow’s middle market leaders by enhancing educational outcomes in part through programs that serve youth in the areas of hunger, housing or health,” said Doug Opheim, chief financial officer with RSM US LLP and chair of the RSM US Foundation. “The mission of Communities in Schools is closely aligned with this mission, and we are honored to support Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada through our owners’ meeting this year.”
In addition to activities related to the firm’s biennial owners’ meeting, RSM and the RSM US Foundation support communities across the country and in Canada where its people live and work through:

About Communities In Schools of Nevada
Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS) is the fifth-largest state office of the nation’s leading evidence-based dropout prevention organization that believes every child has potential – regardless of race, zip code or socioeconomic background – but may lack equal opportunity to succeed. CIS places caring, well-trained, full-time employees in high poverty schools to build trusting relationships with students and families, assess their needs and remove the barriers they face to learn and graduate. CIS taps into a network of more than 100 agencies and nonprofits to meet student needs – literally bringing the community into the schools it serves. CIS has innovated ways to collaborate with partners during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure continuity of care, meeting students online, at home, or in the community to provide supports. Included in CIS’ strategies and culture are principles and practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a result, CIS breaks down immediate and systemic barriers to create and sustain equitable outcomes. CIS operates in over 81 rural and urban schools throughout four school districts statewide. In total, CIS serves more than 80,000 students, including 12 schools in Western Nevada; 12 schools in Northeastern Nevada and 57 schools in Southern Nevada. Nationally, Communities In Schools provides services in more than 2,300 schools in 26 states and the District of Columbia, serving 1.56 million young people and their families every year.
