RSM US Foundation Donates $100,000 to Active Minds Inc. for Mental Health Awareness

CHICAGO – (June 23, 2021) – RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax, and consulting services focused on the middle market – is pleased to announce that the RSM US Foundation recently presented a check for $100,000 to Active Minds Inc., the nation’s leading nonprofit organization supporting mental health awareness and education for young adults.

This gift continues RSM’s support of Active Minds’ mission to end the silence and change the conversation about mental health for everyone. RSM’s support of Active Minds began in 2020 with the donation of $50,000 for the creation of the organization’s online tool, Behind the Backpacks. These additional funds will be used to support chapter activation of Behind the Backpacks and integration into Active Minds’ “Send Silence Packing®” exhibit, which travels the country to end the silence that surrounds mental health and suicide, and connects visitors with resources for support and action.

"Send Silence Packing has traveled the country for more than a decade to inspire action and change the culture around mental health and suicide,” said Becky Fein, director of engagement and training with Active Minds. “Our latest installment of the exhibit, Send Silence Packing: Behind the Backpacks, has given thousands a new immersive experience into the full-spectrum impact of suicide. This generous support from RSM will help us to continue to integrate this interactive exhibit into our comprehensive suicide prevention efforts to reach young adults with life-saving messages wherever they are – on campuses, in the workplace and online."

“The mission of the RSM US Foundation is to build tomorrow’s middle market leaders by enhancing educational outcomes and supporting organizations committed to providing stable environments for youth in the areas of hunger, housing or health,” said Doug Opheim, chief financial officer with RSM US LLP and chair of the RSM US Foundation. “Mental health is equally important as physical health, and we are pleased to support Active Minds’ mission of saving lives and building stronger families.”

“We are excited about extending our support of mental health to our potential future hires during their college experiences,” said Karin Gilmartin, campus talent acquisition manager with RSM US LLP. “RSM offers so many resources to our people. Bringing awareness and resources to students through Active Minds is a natural extension of our caring and inclusive culture. And now is a great time for us to do that, given the high levels of stress students continue to face following the pandemic.”
