AICPA Appoints RSM's Steve Kampa, Alfred Ko to LGBTQ Initiatives Committee

CHICAGO – (July 29, 2021) – The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) recently named Steve Kampa and Alfred Ko with RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – to the AICPA’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Initiatives Committee. Kampa, a tax partner with RSM, will be participating in an advisory capacity for one-year since he held the Co-Chair seat on the AICPA’s LGBTQ networking group that preceded the formation of the Committee, and Ko, a consulting partner, will serve a term of up to 3 years.

The mission of the AICPA’s LGBTQ Initiatives Committee is to facilitate an environment for discussions and actions that will encourage increased representation, and incorporate and maintain an inclusive atmosphere for individuals and groups from a diversity of gender expressions and sexual orientations.

In their roles as members of the committee, Kampa and Ko will be responsible for investigating and understanding the barriers that impede the long-term success of members of the LGBTQ community in the accounting profession; proposing strategies that will alleviate the barriers to retention and advancement of members of the LGBTQ community in the profession; monitoring, evaluating and reporting on data related to recruiting, retention and advancement of members of the LGBTQ community in the profession; and championing and educating about the importance of diversity within the profession.

“At RSM, we understand the importance of inclusion – not only for our firm but for our industry, the community and the world at large,” said Tracey Walker, national leader of culture diversity and inclusion with RSM US LLP. “We are proud to have Steve and Alfred representing RSM with the AICPA on this important committee, and we thank them for everything they do to model inclusion here at our firm and in our profession.”
