Closely held business owners often have a number of concerns to consider when planning an exit from their business. Owners may have different time horizons within which to execute a plan and different goals for the continued business operations. If owners start succession planning before the need to withdraw from the business investment or management becomes immediate, several options are available.

This case study illustrates how the compensatory devices introduced in earlier articles in this series may be combined to form a complete succession plan for a closely held business.
