John has more than 25 years of experience in state and local tax. He specializes in the area of multistate and local taxation, including income, franchise, sales and use, and other transaction-based matters. His extensive knowledge includes multistate transaction structuring, tax planning, due diligence related to acquisitions and dispositions, analysis related to tax reduction studies, and research and advocacy representation of clients during tax examinations. He advises clients on audit defense, reverse audits, nexus studies, credits and incentives, and compliance system automations.
Much of John’s focus is in the private equity space supporting transaction work as well as portfolio companies. His professional background includes working in government as an auditor, corporate environments as a tax manager, and more than 20 years in public accounting. His experiences provide him with a unique ability to craft tailored solutions for clients when it comes to the technical nature of state and local tax solutions.
John is passionate about the work RSM does to serve the middle market. He regularly speaks on topics related to state and local tax developments and issues/opportunities as well as mergers and acquisitions tax-related topics. He is involved in mentoring talent within the organization to help develop leaders at RSM. He is an active member of the firm’s STAR employee networking group advocating for women in the workplace.
