Accounting Today Ranks RSM Fifth Largest Accounting, Tax and Consulting Services Firm in the U.S.

CHICAGO – (April 7, 2022) – RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – was recently ranked the fifth largest accounting, tax and consulting services firm in the U.S. for the 16^th straight year by Accounting Today.

Accounting Today’s “2022 Top 100 Firms” supplement highlights changes to specific details in this year’s report. For instance, this year the publication expanded its definition of what an accounting firm is for inclusion in the Top 100 Firms. Whereas in the past the publication had strictly limited the list to CPA firms, this year it included some professional services firms that offer at least some accounting services (and are often led by CPAs) but are not registered CPA firms. The change was driven by shifts in the market and represent editors’ attempts to have the list represent a coherent set of firms to compare.

Environmental, social and governance-related services were identified as popular areas of exploration for the Top 100 this year; client accounting services were also popular, either for growing a current practice or launching a new offering; as were technology and data security services. One of the major challenges continues to be attracting and retaining talent, particularly in light of the Great Resignation. 

RSM US LLP Managing Partner & CEO Joe Adams shared that like all other organizations both inside and outside of the accounting profession, RSM has felt the impact of the Great Resignation. At the same time, however, he says the firm has been able to attract outstanding talent—people who are looking for a change from their current jobs and are inspired by what RSM has to offer.

Accounting Today’s “2022 Top 100 Firms” also highlighted RSM’s May 2021 launch of the firm’s Center for Advanced Tax Technologies and the firm’s August 2021 addition of the leaders and staff of the U.S. and Canadian operations of nonprofit technology services and association management systems consulting firm C-Systems and SalesForce consulting partner Confluence Global. RSM’s disease and outbreak management system for government agencies was also highlighted, along with RSM’s joining forces with the ServiceNow practice of Rego Consulting, and the firm’s announcement of a new managing partner and CEO elect, Brian Becker, effective August 31, 2022.
