Tell us a little about yourself
I am a nontraditional student who returned to education after overcoming significant medical challenges. My journey took me from Van Meter High School, Van Meter, Iowa, to Alaska and back to Des Moines, where I was eventually diagnosed with narcolepsy. This newfound clarity allowed me to resume my studies at Des Moines Area Community College with renewed purpose. My passions include playing the ukulele, painting and volunteering with the Iowa Society of CPAs.
How has the Power Your Transition scholarship affected your education so far?
The scholarship has been life-changing, enabling me to focus on my studies at the University of Northern Iowa without the distraction of financial stress. It allowed me to avoid taking on loans for the last two years, setting me up for success as I prepare for graduate school. It has motivated and inspired me for the future.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself or any words you’d like to share with RSM?
I am incredibly thankful to the RSM US Foundation for their support. Transitioning from community college to a four-year program felt like crossing a canyon with a tightrope, but the foundation provided the bridge I needed to cross with confidence.
