Flexible purchase options
Traditionally, customers have purchased siloed business applications to support individual business functions or based on the needs of a department. While Dynamics 365 will continue to allow customers to license Dynamics 365 by application (financials, operations, sales, marketing, etc.), you will now also have the option to license users by role. This new role based approach will give you the flexibility to support more agile, more diverse employee roles–enabling them to access functionality across all applications within Dynamics 365.
App- and role-based licenses:
There are two ways to license Dynamics 365 – by application or by personalized role.
- Application licensing: Purchase individual modules such as financials or customer service within the Dynamics 365 suite.
- Role-based licensing: This unique licensing model is designed to help customers support their employees and the real world roles they fill by giving them access to multiple modules within the Dynamics 365 suite. For example, account managers do a better job when they can see the latest customer service tickets and outstanding invoices.
- Role-based licensing provides users with full usage rights to PowerApps and Microsoft Flow to compose new apps and easily extend and modify existing ones.
- Role-based licensing improves ROI as companies pay once for access to the capability they need regardless of which application it resides in. Many competing software packages require customers to buy licenses for multiple apps–resulting in two to three times increased cost.
In addition to the two main licensing structures, Microsoft will offer Team Member licensing, a low-cost option for light users who may not need to be full users of any business application. On a day-to-day basis, these employees may need to book travel, change their personnel information, update a customer record or review sales data. A Team Member license enables these employees to perform these tasks themselves, rather than relying on others and impacting productivity.
The core of Dynamics 365 unifies three of Microsoft’s most successful products – ERP, CRM and Azure cloud. It also includes the power to tailor your implementation to the exact needs of your industry and business by extending functionality with apps from the Microsoft AppSource.
Microsoft AppSource is a clearinghouse where Dynamics 365 users can easily find and evaluate line-of-business SaaS apps, add-ins and content packs from Microsoft and Microsoft partners. Apps include those built on top of Dynamics 365, Office 365, Cortana Intelligence and the Azure platform.
Dynamics 365 also comes with connectors that let you integrate with applications and services from Microsoft and Microsoft partners, including custom APIs and on premise systems.
Additionally, Dynamics 365 offers tech-savvy business customers (using PowerApps, Power BI Embedded and Microsoft Flow) and professional developers (using Azure platforms services) a consistent business platform they can use to compose new apps and easily extend and modify existing ones.
