2018 Venture capital trends summary

INSIGHT ARTICLE  |

With an aggregate dollar value of $131 billion invested across 9,000 deals, 2018 was a record-breaking year for deal flow in the venture capital (VC) industry. Record exits in 2017 significantly contributed to the 2018 deal-flow records. With fund managers not wanting to exit unless they have made a reasonable return on their investment, they are looking for buyers who are willing give them a premium. Buoyant exit markets in both 2017 and 2018 helped fund managers to exit their portfolio companies with reasonable returns.

With data from Thomson Reuters and National Venture Capital Association, Hitesh Kothari, assurance partner at RSM, examines the 2018 U.S. venture capital activity. This report offers an array of insights into the current U.S. VC landscape, including deal flow analysis, exit activity and valuation trends.
