Liam Neilson is a financial services audit partner at RSM Canada. He has over twenty years of focused international experience with financial institutions, including insurance, lenders and asset managers. Liam also supports RSM’s consulting practice through his involvement in financial services projects.
Liam Neilson leads RSM Canada’s financial services audits and assurance contracts. He focuses on insurance, financial institutions and other financial services companies. In addition to assurance, he has significant experience designing, implementing, executing controls and evidencing sufficient control evidence to pass both internal and external audits. His work has included writing corporate policies and standards that establish frameworks for risk, governance and reporting processes. He held a prior role as an internal audit director at a large Canadian financial institution.
Of particular note, Liam is RSM’s global IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts subject matter specialist. He is highly experienced with IFRS 17 financial statements, notes disclosures and reporting to regulators. He has led IFRS 17 industry working groups for the Insurance Bureau of Canada, IFRS and OSFI, and published industry white papers through those groups on the interpretation of IFRS 17 and its practical application.
