Public sector cybersecurity: Understanding the cyberthreat landscape

The Department of Homeland Security has designated October as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. While you may not think public sector entities are a major target for cyberattacks, unfortunately they are just as likely to be targets as private sector organizations.

In the last year, 15% of middle market C-suite executives said their organizations experienced a data breach, up from 13% in 2018 and a significant jump from 5% just four years ago. In addition to cybersecurity challenges, emerging data privacy regulations are requiring organizations to make a significant shift in how they collect and store data. While not all breaches can be prevented, there are several ways you can try to mitigate against them including educating staff, being aware of the biggest threats facing the public sector, and implementing and utilizing technology effectively with a security oriented mindset.
