Joseph Wiener specializes in mergers and acquisitions in RSM US LLP’s Washington National Tax practice. A licensed attorney, Joseph develops firm policies and advises clients on transaction-related federal tax issues.
Joseph helps strategic buyers and private equity firms consider the tax ramifications of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and other corporate transactions. He also supports the firm nationally by drafting and publishing articles, white papers, and memoranda that explain a variety of corporate and M&A tax issues.
Joseph subspecializes in the section 1202 qualified small business stock provision, friendly doctor structures, and debt-related issues.
He has authored or co-authored more than 50 articles for various tax publications and websites, including Tax Notes, The Tax Adviser, Law360, Taxation of Exempt Organizations, the AIRA (Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors) Journal, and the RSM US website.
While in law school, Joseph interned in the appellate unit of the Department of Justice’s Tax Division. He began his career in the M&A division of one of the Big Four accounting firms.
Prior to law school, Joseph studied Talmudic law for several years in Jerusalem. Outside of work, Joseph spends time with his family and community.
