ABOUT JOHN

CDI experience

John is the national leader of InspirAsian, RSM’s employee network group that engages the firm’s Asian professionals in career development opportunities and cultural events. John believes that an organization like RSM will be successful only if it cultivates an environment that actively encourages diversity and inclusivity in all that it does.

In 2019, John was named an RSM IMPACT Award winner for his focus on inclusive leadership and moving with intention toward a goal of unconscious inclusion across RSM. He has been instrumental in RSM Canada's sponsorship in Canada of Ascend, the largest non-profit Pan-Asian organization for business professionals in North America. Through interactions with Ascend in the U.S., he has gained a greater understanding of RSM Canada’s role in raising RSM’s profile within the Canadian Asian business community.

Summary of experience

John is a tax partner and the National U.S. Tax Services leader at RSM Canada. His clients include public and privately held companies, partnerships, not-for-profit organizations, foreign-owned corporations, and high net worth individuals. John has advised clients on a wide range of U.S. domestic and cross-border issues including business expansions into the United States, financing and refinancing structures, tax due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, state income and franchise tax, sales and use tax, credits and incentives, treaty qualification, repatriation, withholding taxes, and FATCA, among others.

A member of the New York and New Jersey State Bars, John is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
