Welcome home

Making a positive impact in the communities where our people live and work is one of RSM’s highest priorities. Our caring people go above-and-beyond to support children and families in need across the nation through Birdies Fore Love (BFL), RSM’s charitable giving platform related to The RSM Classic. And every year, several of our BFL office leaders are invited to attend The Classic as a thank-you for their leadership efforts and their focus on stewardship. Chris Waddail, manager – assurance services and national Birdies Fore Love co-chair from our Baltimore office – one of two of our BFL co-leader this year, and attended the 2019 RSM Classic. You can read about his experience below.

My wife and I knew we were set to have a memorable week when upon arrival to Sea Island we were greeted with “Welcome home.” The beautiful landscape provides for a perfect backdrop to all of the RSM-branded signs and banners, and sets the tone for the rest of the week.

After we got acclimated, we were beyond excited to join fellow employees, clients and guests at Team RSM member Davis Love III’s house for the Yamaha pro-am draft party. As a bonus, my fellow Birdies Fore Love (BFL) co-leader Laura Shen and I had the privilege of announcing this year’s donation total ($3.8 million), bringing the total raised during the 10 years of The RSM Classic to $17 million, and RSM's contributions through Birdies Fore Love to more than $12 million. We were blown away by the success of this year’s campaign and the immense impact it will have on children- and family-focused nonprofits across the country and in Canada.

Wednesday morning, Laura and I were interviewed by Matt Adams, host of Sirius XM’s Fairways of Life, which was an amazing opportunity to reflect on the entire BFL program. The rest of the day was spent wandering the grounds of the Seaside and Plantation courses before heading back to The Cloister for a night to remember. Surrounded by clients, friends, employees and Tour players, we stood 20 feet from Grammy-award winning artist, Darius Rucker, an experience we’ll never forget. Everyone had their phones out taking pictures and recording videos – I just wish I hadn’t been singing so loud in my videos…I don’t sound quite as good as Darius!

Thursday brought with it even more remarkable experiences with a round of golf, a little shopping, and networking at the 18th Green chalet, hosted by RSM. The day culminated with a reception where Doug Opheim, chief financial officer with RSM US LLP, and chairman of the RSM US Foundation, presented a surprise check for $64,250 to the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, continuing our firm’s long-standing partnership with this great organization. I also had the opportunity to join Davis Love III and his son Dru out on the putting green to showcase my unpredictable golf game.

We’re sad to be leaving Sea Island tomorrow but anticipate spending the day Friday soaking it all in. Thank you to all of the volunteers and staff that make this week so special. Finally, thank you, thank you, thank you to the entire RSM community for your support of Birdies Fore Love and for helping to demonstrate true stewardship. Clearly, it’s not just one of our core values. It’s the way our people live and work each day.

The RSM Classic and RSM US LLP will be sharing social media updates throughout the tournament via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Golf fans can like and share our updates using #Celebrating10Years to emphasize celebration of the tournament’s 10th anniversary – and 10 years of giving back to the community.

We hope you’ll join us in telling this great story.
