Colin Montgomerie




Colin Montgomerie is one of his generation’s most recognisable sports stars and is a true statesman of golf. Known affectionately to millions around the world as 'Monty', he is probably best known for his Ryder Cup record. Colin played in eight Ryder Cup Matches and was unbeaten in his eight singles matches, and in October 2010 he captained the victorious European Ryder Cup Team at Celtic Manor. 

After an illustrious Amateur career, Colin turned pro in 1987 and was Rookie of the Year in Europe in 1988. By 1993, he was Europe’s No. 1, a position he retained for an unprecedented run of seven years. He went on to win his eighth Order of Merit in 2005. 

In 1998 he was honoured with an MBE, and in 2005 he collected an OBE from H.R.H. Prince Charles. 

In May 2013 Colin was inducted into The World Golf Hall of Fame. In June 2013 Colin turned 50 and now plays on the European Tour, The Staysure Tour and The PGA Tour Champions in the USA. He has since won 3 Senior Majors, 2014 and 2015 Senior PGA Championship and 2014 Senior US Open. Throughout his career spanning 30 years he was won 53 Tournaments worldwide.

Colin’s course design business is flourishing and he currently has 11 courses in play with a further 10 courses being designed/constructed across the world. 

Colin has his own Charitable Foundation, The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation, in memory of his late mother.  He has raised over £5M to build two Maggies Centres, in Aberdeen and Lanarkshire, 'Maggies Centre at The Elizabeth Montgomerie Building' which provide support and research for lung cancer patients.
