RSM receives a visit from His Royal Highness Prince Edward

Two years ago, His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, visited the RSM San Francisco office to celebrate the collaboration between RSM and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award USA. Founded in 1956 by Queen Elizabeth’s husband, HRH Prince Phillip, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the largest youth achievement award in the world and one that RSM is becoming increasingly involved with in the US.

Back for a nine-city tour to promote the Award, Prince Edward made a stop in Chicago, RSM US LLP’s headquarters, in late September, where we hosted a luncheon in his honor.

The connection between the Award and RSM began more than 12 years ago when RSM UK became a corporate sponsor of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the UK. RSM UK steadily increased its involvement over the years culminating in it being a headline sponsor of the Diamond Anniversary of the Award in 2016. It was in that same year that David Gwilliam, CEO of RSM UK, reached out to US colleagues to get involved at an international level, having been inspired by the Award’s mission to empower youth from all backgrounds to improve themselves and their communities and find their purpose, passion and place in the world.

Active in more than 130 countries and territories, the Award encourages young people, from 14 to 24 years of age to learn new skills, get physically active, volunteer within their communities and discover a sense of adventure outside of the classroom by developing a set of individualized goals in each area. Award Leaders coach and support participants to achieve their goals, and earn a bronze, silver or a gold level Award.

Our relationship with the organization provides opportunities for RSM’s people to gain skills in leading, motivating and guiding young people as they uniquely grow in their lives and communities.

RSM US has launched the Award program in four markets to date: San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas and New York, and is looking for internal Award Leaders to help grow the program.

At RSM, we understand the importance of supporting the communities where our people live and work, and we’re looking forward to continuing to expand our involvement with the USA Award.
