Custom segments in budget reporting

Since the initial release, NetSuite continues to expand capabilities for Custom Segments.  This new ability to define G/L postings with an unlimited number of classifications has expanded financial reporting capabilities for many accounting teams.  Custom Segments are currently not released to all financial reporting functions, but a very important function is currently available – Budget Creation.

The ability to create Budget Reports for all posting elements is essential and, with the appropriate configuration, NetSuite’s Custom Segments can be leveraged in these key business reports. Below is a step-by-step description of how to make Custom Segments available for Budget Reporting.

Custom Segment Creation

  1. Enable Feature

a. Navigate to Setup>Company>Enable Features

b. On the ‘SuiteCloud’ Tab, find the SuiteGL Section and check ‘Custom Segments’

    2. Create New Custom Segment

a. Navigate to Customization>Lists, Records, & Fields>Custom Segments>New

b. Set up primary information and Custom Segment Values.

c. Set Application & Sourcing

d. While setting your Application & Sourcing, navigate to ‘Other Record Types’.

e. Make sure ‘Budget Import’ is checked.
