Highlights of the Taxpayer First Act of 2019
Changes on the horizon for the IRS
On July 1, 2019 the Taxpayer First Act was signed into law. The Act, which directs the IRS to restructure certain parts of its organization to meet current needs, means significant changes are coming, including:
- Establishment of an Independent Office of Appeals and changes to the appeals process
- Improvements to customer services for taxpayers
- Enhanced cybersecurity and identity theft resources
- Implementation of an updated IT system and other technology improvements
