About Tom

Tom Silversmith is a partner at RSM US LLP and leads the firm’s tax digital services operating partnership practice. He focuses on helping organizations modernize partnership tax operations with practical, technology‑driven solutions that simplify processes, enhance data clarity and deliver smoother, more efficient compliance cycles.

Tom guides clients in transforming their tax functions by prioritizing practical, technology‑forward improvements that streamline processes, elevate data quality and free teams to focus on meaningful analysis. He measures success through real outcomes by implementing smoother compliance cycles, clearer visibility into partnership activity and stronger, more empowered tax teams

With more than 14 years in federal, state and local taxation, Tom has a deep understanding of  complex partnership structures, including umbrella partnership (UP‑C and UP‑REIT) arrangements. He has worked extensively on calculations related to  sections 704(c), 704(b), 743(b) and 734(b); tax basis; section 752; and tax receivable agreements. He began his career at Big Four firms, where he helped integrate advanced applications and automation into compliance and consulting processes—experience that shaped his focus on scalable, operationally sound solutions.

Known for bringing clarity to complexity, Tom breaks down sophisticated concepts into clear, actionable steps. He draws on both his technical partnership tax background and his technology implementation experience to help clients and teams think more strategically about data, processes and long‑term efficiency.

He also contributes to internal innovation and continuous improvement communities and participates in external mentorship and community initiatives supporting career development in accounting and technology. Tom brings a balance of technical depth, practical experience and a genuine commitment to helping people work smarter.
