Joni works collaboratively with clients to design and maintain employee compensation, retirement, equity-based and fringe benefit arrangements that both achieve favorable tax treatment and target specific client business goals. She is well-versed in the ever-changing trends, legislative initiatives, regulatory activity and economic environment affecting employee benefits.
She has deep industry experience in matters relating to ERISA fiduciary responsibility and prohibited transactions; transactions involving employer securities; employee benefits plan design, administration, funding and correction; executive compensation including severance arrangements, employment agreements, deferred compensation, equity-based arrangements, nonqualified retirement plans and SERPs; employee benefits issues in mergers and acquisitions; and health and welfare plans and trusts.
Joni has been recognized for her extensive knowledge by Best Lawyers in America, Illinois Super Lawyers, Who’s Who in American Law, Chambers, and as a Top 50 Women Lawyers in Illinois. Outside of work, Joni is an avid cyclist and has biked through Tuscany, New Zealand and several U.S. national parks.
