Ernest “E.J.” Nedder is a partner and chief strategy officer for RSM US LLP. In this role, he drives a broad-based effort to evolve RSM’s strategic vision and culture of innovation to transform RSM into a digital firm that provides assurance, tax, and consulting services.
E.J. has over 26 years of experience advising clients and 16 years of leadership experience.
As chief strategy officer, he leads the development, communication, execution and sustainability of the enterprise strategy, working with leaders from the firm’s lines of business, industries, verticals, channels, and other business units to fully align RSM’s vision and strategy. He oversees the research and analysis of industry and competitive trends to identify emerging market opportunities and strategic areas of interest and potential merger, acquisition and divestment opportunities. He also monitors business trends, outlooks and competitive intelligence to inform strategic business planning.
In his previous role as national tax leader, he led substantial business transformation initiatives to drive tax consulting and tax technology implementations to redefine the client experience, using the power of technology and complex data sets to deliver meaningful services and compelling insights.
As a mentor, he has been actively involved in developing leaders across the organization, as well as developing tax professionals through the firm’s tax training programs. Prior to joining RSM, E.J. served clerkships with the New York State Surrogate’s Court and Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board. He has served two terms on the RSM US LLP Board of Directors and was chairman of the board during his second term.
He is an active participant in the firm’s Family First employee network group and a member of RSM’s African American and Canadian Excellence Board of Advisors. Outside of work, E.J. enjoys spending time with his family, as well as golfing, skiing and boating.
