Whether you are an associate new to RSM or a manager debating your next career move, it’s important to determine the right career path for you. One that aligns with your definition of personal and professional success.

Your career advisor

When you join RSM, you’ll be paired with a career advisor who will help you set performance and career goals. And you’ll have regular check-ins to make sure you stay on track. Through feedback, coaching, listening and mentoring – your career advisor truly becomes one of your biggest advocates.

Career development framework

Our career development framework gives you a better understanding of what success looks like in your current role, how you can progress in your career and links directly to the development tools to help you get there. It also helps you align your contributions to firm strategy and enables intentional performance and career conversations with your career advisor and others throughout the year.

Learning and professional development

We follow the rule of “70-20-10.” And we believe it. Seventy percent of your professional development at RSM will come from client assignments, twenty percent will come from relationships you build on-the-job and ten percent will come from coursework and training.

While you’re working with clients and team members on the “90 percent,” we’re working hard to make sure we’re world class in our delivery of the final “10 percent.”

Continuing professional education – We exceed state and national licensing requirements by offering over 400 educational courses to our employees. You will be encouraged to participate in at least 40 hours of professional education each year.

First year training – If you join us directly from campus, you’ll attend national training with peers from across RSM. You’ll learn specific concepts relative to your job and practice a variety of procedures similar to those found on client engagements.

Milestone training – At key points in your career, you’ll attend training and conferences to help you build confidence, skills and expertise. In addition, our executive programs provide aspiring partners/managing directors with the tools they need to successfully lead RSM forward.

Becoming a CPA – The CPA credential is vital to both you and our business. All associates on a CPA track are strongly encouraged to obtain their license as early as possible in their careers. While achieving a CPA certification falls on your shoulders, we’re with you all the way providing encouragement and support through:

  • Exam preparation materials through Becker CPA review
  • Expense reimbursement for exam and application fees
  • Time off to prepare for and take the exam
  • Financial rewards for those who pass the exam within 18 months of college graduation
