Meet Angela Reed, a Houston-based tax manager. A passion for giving back created opportunities to get involved and lead local efforts.

This is my second year leading Power of Love (POL) efforts in Houston. POL is RSM’s annual stewardship campaign where each of our offices select a local youth-focused charity to support through fundraising and volunteering opportunities. Over 70 RSM offices across the U.S., Canada, India and El Salvador participate each year, with efforts being amplified by the RSM US Foundation.

When thinking about why I wanted to be a part of this program, it’s honestly just who I am. I’ve been a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. for 35 years, and philanthropy is part of my DNA. At RSM, I’ve been given the opportunity to take the lead and make a real impact in my community.

Each year, we choose a different charity to support through POL—this year it’s Collaborative for Children. Their focus on early childhood education struck a chord with me. Our local office selects organizations where there is already an established personal connection through board membership, which helps to foster long-standing relationships whether or not we are currently supporting that specific charity through POL.

Last POL season, we were able to raise $67,155 in support of Houston Children’s Charity. Additional dollars were raised to purchase school uniforms and supplies for students across the city. As a tax manager, I am focused on my clients, but POL shows me there’s more I can contribute beyond my daily responsibilities. RSM supports me fully in balancing my professional and philanthropic passions, and for that, I am thankful.
