Richard Caturano

National Leader of Culture, Diversity and Inclusion

Immediate Past Chairman - American Institute of CPAs
National Leader of Culture, Diversity and Inclusion

Summary of Experience

Richard Caturano is a partner in the Boston Office of RSM US LLP (RSM), the nation's leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market, where he serves as the firm's national leader of culture, diversity and inclusion. He is a graduate of Bentley University, where he obtained both a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in taxation. He was a founding member of Vitale, Caturano and Company (VCC), and led the firm through substantial growth to become the largest independent firm in New England as well as a Top 40 firm in the US. Under his leadership, VCC received numerous awards, including Boston Globe's "Top 100 Places to Work" list, "#1 Best Place to Work For" by Vault Accounting Guide, and one of the "Best Places to Work" in Massachusetts and Top Charitable Contributors by the Boston Business Journal. In 2010 VCC merged with the RSM US making the Boston office its third largest office. Caturano is a five time recipient of Accounting Today's "100 Most Influential People in Accounting" and has been recognized by Winning Workplaces as one of the "Best Bosses" nationwide.

From 2012-2013, Caturano served as the 100th Chair of the 400,000 member American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). As AICPA Chair, Caturano took on the challenge of the lack of diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession. He helped establish the National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion and has personally delivered the message of diversity and inclusion to tens of thousands of professionals and business leaders. His message has inspired CPA firms across the country to add diversity and inclusion as a top strategic priority, including his own firm, RSM. In 2020, Caturano was awarded with the AICPA Gold Medal Award of Distinction, the highest honor granted by the AICPA. Since 1944, it has been bestowed upon CPAs whose influence on the accounting profession has been especially notable.

Caturano has been active in many professional, charitable and civic organizations, most proudly a past president of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, past board member of the Genesis Fund, and a current board member of the Boston Police Athletic League.
