Extensive industry insight helps create successful solutions

TESTIMONIAL

“I would not consider being able to move forward without being able to look at the advice, the guidance, the leadership and indeed the mentorship of RSM.”

-Michael Barrett, President and CEO, Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Limited

Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Limited is a Mississauga, Ontario-based dairy co-operative with members on more than 1,360 dairy farms and more than 4,250 members overall. Founded in 1958, Gay Lea Foods is the largest dairy co-operative in Ontario with 11 production facilities across Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta, and an additional distribution facility in Quebec.

Discovering RSM’s industry knowledge

Because every single part of milk has value, a byproduct in one facility must efficiently move as a finished good to another facility, demonstrating the significant complexity in the industry. When working in the dairy industry, you’re moving a lot of parts—from milk to cream and butter.

Seven years ago, Gay Lea Foods found itself working on a legacy business system and needing to start the process to upgrade its technology. It was through the request for proposal process that Gay Lea Foods discovered RSM. “They went to great lengths to understand the industry before they got here. They’re very knowledgeable, very professional, very efficient,” said Mike Eusebi, vice president of finance for Gay Lea Foods.

A unique relationship

With more than 900 employees, it was critical for Gay Lea Foods to have a business advisor that understood its culture. “RSM understands the Gay Lea Foods culture and that was very important,” said Eusebi. “I’ve never had a situation where RSM didn’t have the answer to a question. They get things done on a timely basis. You can call them any hour, and they’re available. I recommend RSM as a first-choice advisor.”

“I would not consider being able to move forward without being able to look at the advice, the guidance, the leadership and indeed the mentorship of RSM,” said Michael Barrett, president and CEO of Gay Lea Foods.
