RSM Community College Accounting Scholarship



The RSM US Foundation is pleased to present the RSM Community College Accounting Scholarship program to help community college students pursue a four-year degree. The program will award a $1,500 scholarship to five students at Southwestern College for the 2021-22 academic year. The recipients must have the intention to attend an accredited four-year college or university full-time where they will qualify to receive additional scholarship funding of up to $5,000 per academic year for 2022-23 and 2023-24. The total cumulative scholarship value will be up to $11,500 per recipient.


  • Thursday, March 25, 2021—application period begins
  • Sunday, April 25, 2021 (11:59 p.m. Pacific time)—application period closes
  • May 2021—five recipients selected and notified
  • July/August 2021—initial payments made to Southwestern College for 2021/2022 academic year

Who is eligible?

The program is open only to U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), or those with refugee/asylee/temporary protected status and qualified as an alien authorized to work who is at least 18 years old as of the date of application. Applicants must:

  • Be a first year student (or a student who just completed their first year) at Southwestern College pursuing an Associate of Arts in Accounting (that is eligible for transfer) or enrolled in a course of study in the Business Administration Transfer (ADT) program
  • Have completed Accounting 101 in their first year at Southwestern College
  • Intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States or District of Columbia with courses beginning in Fall 2022, following completion of their courses at Southwestern College in Spring 2022
  • Be a full-time student (12+ for-credit courses) in good standing at Southwestern College, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

Who is not eligible?

  • Full-time and/or part-time employees, temporary employees, partners, principals, contractors, and interns (and their immediate family members) of RSM US LLP, RSM US Wealth Management LLC, Risk & Regulatory Consulting, LLC, and their respective affiliated entities and of the RSM US Foundation are not eligible.
  • Any person who has received a scholarship or other aid in prior years of this program or a similar program of the RSM entities or RSM US Foundation is not eligible.

How to apply?

  • Gather your current (unofficial) transcript from Southwestern College.
  • Obtain an electronic (unofficial) copy of your high school transcript.
  • Craft a short answer response (500 characters or less) answering the following question: What motivates you to pursue an accounting degree from an accredited four-year college or university?
  • Create a 30-45 second video that demonstrates which of RSM’s 5 C’s (Caring, Curious, Collaborative, Courageous, and Critical Thinking)  comes most naturally to (and best fits) you.
    • Your video must contain only original content. It is recommended to simply capture yourself and to not include other people, photos, videos, music or content other than you in order to comply with the terms and conditions of this scholarship. Keep it simple! 
    • If unoriginal content is used in your video submission, unfortunately your application will not be eligible for the scholarship as clearly defined in the full terms and conditions document.
