RSM sponsors 2021 ALPFA Convention and student scholars

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION  |

Each year ALPFA’s (Association of Latino Professionals For America’s) National Convention attracts thousands of students and professionals who share the common goal of connecting for impact and developing the Hispanic and Latino leaders of tomorrow. This year’s virtual convention was no exception – RSM was proud to support ALPFA for our eighth consecutive year by offering development sessions for students and professionals, and opportunities to engage with our recruiters and talented professionals.

For first-time attendee Genesis Herrera, an audit associate based in McLean VA, the convention provided an opportunity to reflect on personal strengths and areas for growth. “Personally, I felt that the convention taught me that I do belong where I am. I bring a lot to my team and I should believe in myself and my work. Professionally, I took away the importance of goal setting and holding myself accountable on how I will reach my goals.”

As a sponsoring partner, RSM also made an impact on ALPFA students by sponsoring scholarships and awarding the RSM Power of Being You Video Contest winner. Congratulations to these deserving students:

2021 RSM Power of Being You Video Contest

Our teams are made up of talented individuals who bring their unique insights and experiences to their roles each day. Together we celebrate our differences by creating an inclusive workplace that empowers us all to be our authentic selves and deliver the power of being understood to our clients, colleagues and communities.

The RSM Power of Being You Video Contest gives students the opportunity to tell us what makes them unique. One student is selected to receive $1,000 based on the story they share and their passion for our profession. A special congratulations to this year’s winner Gabriela Matute, a junior studying accounting and finance at the University of Central Florida. “This award means so much to me. With this, I will be able to pay for part of my school and continue to pursue my education!  One again, thank you so much to RSM for encouraging the power of being YOU.”

2021 RSM Sponsored Scholarships

RSM was honored to sponsor six $5,000 scholarships for ALPFA students. ALPFA selected these scholarship recipients based their scholastic achievements, leadership potential and commitment to advancing the accounting profession. Congratulations to these students:

Ashley Benitez
Finance at the University of Houston

“This scholarship award will only push me further toward achieving my career goals. It represents all the hard work and effort I have put into becoming the best student and professional within the past three years of my college journey. Additionally, it is a new opportunity to continue to strive for greatness.”

Diego Luna-Rivera
Finance at Temple University

“I am incredibly grateful for this scholarship, as it is going to be extremely helpful in offsetting the financial burden of tuition this year. The pandemic has a taken a heavy toll on my family’s Mexican restaurant but now I can focus more on my studies because of this scholarship.”

Estefania Marquez
Accounting at Texas A&M University

“This award has provided me with the opportunity to continue my education at TAMU, and both my family and I are so grateful that I was chosen to receive it. As a first generation student, I want to thank RSM for helping me to achieve my academic and personal goals.”

Jazmin Albarran
Accounting at Kennesaw State University

“Receiving the RSM Scholarship alleviates the financial burden of attending college. As a first-generation student, it is viewed as a triumph for my entire family. It allows me to be one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a CPA. Being acknowledged motivates me to excel in my future endeavors.”

Kembely Caro Fernandez
Accounting at Temple University

“This will be my fifth year, and financial aid is very limited. The summer when my financial aid letter came out, I was immediately stressed. I started looking for a fulltime job to work during the school year, and this scholarship is giving me the opportunity to stop that search.”

Milton Hernandez
Finance at Southern Methodist University

“While this scholarship benefits my personal academic career, the most gratifying aspect is that RSM is committed to investing in historically underrepresented talent within the finance and accounting field. Scholarships such as this not only benefit the students, but helps close the disparity in wealth for generations to come.”
