Retailers, home building and inflation to define the week ahead
WEEKLY MARKET COMMENTARY |
Investors will get a heavy dose of first-tier economic data amidst an equally busy slate of corporate earnings, much of it from the retail sector that is experiencing a secular decline despite healthy consumer spending. The focus on the economy will likely be on the health of the housing sector, rising inflation, first-time jobless claims and regional manufacturing. In addition to the April Federal Open Market Committee minutes, which will be published on Wednesday, the Federal Reserve (Fed) will send out four speakers to address the public this week including New York Fed President Dudley on Friday. The Minneapolis Fed will hold a conference titled, “Too Big to Fail,” which is intended to support the proposal to break up the five large systemically risky banks. Minneapolis Fed President, Neel Kashkari, intends to submit this proposal.
