Fresh economic data on manufacturing, housing and jobless claims

Investors will observe a major week of corporate earnings and first-tier economic releases. Among the economic and financial bellwethers that will report their Q3 2017 earnings this week are Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, UnitedHealth Group, Netflix, Alcoa, General Electric and Schlumberger.
The week in economic data will be defined by a spate of fresh information on the housing sector, inflation, industrial production, Treasury International Capital flows, regional manufacturing and jobless claims data. The Federal Reserve (Fed) will send six speakers to address the market, including a Friday, Oct. 20, speech by Fed Chair Janet Yellen who will speak on monetary policy since the financial crisis. The U.S. Treasury will put a $5 billion 30-year Treasury Inflation Protection Securities reopening to the market on Thursday, Oct. 19.
