RSM US LLP’s Steven Heyendal is a consulting partner focused on Securities and Exchange Commission registrants, complex accounting issues and capital markets transactions. Steven has more than 15 years of public accounting experience serving companies from pre-revenue to large multinational public entities across technology, manufacturing and consumer sectors in both an advisory and audit capacity.
Steven is a member of RSM's finance and accounting outsourcing practice, where he helps clients build, run and scale their finance functions. The work is operational and recurring—being inside the business with a chief financial officer and finance team rather than opening once a year. He is reasonable, user-friendly and available.
The foundation behind his consulting work is 15 years on the advisory and assurance side. Most recently, Steven led engagements across public; private; and environmental, social and governance assurance both at RSM and at the Big Four. His industry lens stays two-pronged: SEC registrants and private-equity-backed middle market portfolio companies. The audit-trained discipline translates directly into how he helps clients stand up reporting that scales.
A meaningful share of his time goes to the people side of the firm. He is involved with RSM’s VALOR employee network group. Over the past few years, he has handled recruiting across Los Angeles and Orange County, run the Orange County local audit training program, and served as the local audit connector before the move into consulting. Outside the firm, he’s lectured to students at Cal State Fullerton and sat on the audit career growth panel at CSUN. While serving as a partner, he completed his master's degree in finance from the University of Oklahoma.
