|Noon–1 p.m.||Economic update: Perspectives on the economy and impact on middle market companies
Presented by Joe Brusuelas, RSM economist
Joe Brusuelas is frequently asked to speak with reporters or provide commentary on the outlook for the middle market economy, including how proposed or recently enacted policy change will affect middle market businesses. Previously, Joe was a senior economist at Bloomberg, LP, and the Bloomberg Briefs newsletter group. During that time, he was named one of the 26 economists to follow by the Huffington Post. Joe has over 20 years of experience in finance and economics, with emphasis on analyzing U.S. monetary policy, labor markets, fiscal policy, economic indicators and the condition of the U.S. consumer. Joe strongly believes the middle market is the “real economy,” as it accounts for more than a third of our employment base and gross domestic product. Mid-sized companies will be increasingly important in driving the success of business in the United States.
|1–2 p.m.||Understanding blockchain: Are you prepared for this new technology?
Presented by Tim McDonald, RSM Director, Risk Advisory Services
Blockchain is best known as the platform supporting the cryptocurrency market, but the technology's most far-reaching impact is developing quietly behind the scenes. This disruptive technology will change how companies operate and how you deal with your customers and vendors.
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Explain how to identify leases and implement the new standards
- Recognize issues to avoid in implementing revenue recognition standards
- Describe the potential impact of macroeconomic issues on their business
- Articulate how blockchain technology could affect their business
