Cloud risk and compliance

Many companies consider moving, or have moved business processes to the cloud to gain efficiencies and cost savings, but are not aware of where information is located, who has access to it and how it is protected. It can be an effective solution, but companies must be aware of their data and systems in the cloud, and also whether policies and controls actively manage potential risks.

Whether you find yourself utilizing cloud-based solutions, by design or by accident, or have been using cloud solutions for years, managing your organization’s risk and aligning to compliance obligations can be confusing. Understanding and managing risk and compliance with cloud-based solutions from initial migration, through day-to-day operations, to regular reviews—having a comprehensive risk management plan—is imperative to reducing organizational risk and ensuring ongoing compliance.

Learning objectives

  • Differentiate between software as a service, platform as a service, infrastructure as a service, and the high risk areas associated with each cloud architecture
  • Understand how organizations are addressing cloud risks today
  • Identify risks in moving data and systems to the cloud
  • Review a modular cloud control framework for multiple regulatory and compliance obligations
