Investors await rate decision and fiscal policy direction
WEEKLY MARKET COMMENTARY |
With the Trump rally continuing in equity markets and the Dow rapidly approaching 20,000, investor focus will be placed on the Federal Reserve (Fed) rate decision, its forward-looking forecast and Fed Chair Janet Yellen’s press conference. She will certainly be asked questions about the economic impact from what will likely be the expansionary fiscal policy of the Trump administration.
The upcoming week will see a spate of first-tier economic releases that will feature fresh data on small business optimism, import prices, producer prices, consumer prices, industrial production and housing. On a global basis, euro-area purchasing managers’ index, U.K. inflation, labor market and a Bank of England rate decision are all on tap. The U.S. Treasury will issue $24 billion in three-year notes on Monday, a $20 billion 10-year note reopening on Monday and $12 billion 30-year bond reopening on Tuesday.
