Investors will be following another week of major earnings releases from bellwethers such as Walmart, Target, Home Depot and John Deere. Beyond the market, forward-looking investors and firm managers will likely look at the growing political crisis in the national capital and the after-effects of the worldwide ransomware strike this past Friday, May 12.

The week will have a light economic calendar featuring fresh information on the housing market, residential investment, industrial production, jobless claims and regional manufacturing. The Federal Reserve (Fed) will send three speakers to address the public with the most notable being St. Louis Fed President James Bullard’s talk on Friday, May 19 before the Association for Corporate Growth on the U.S. economy and monetary policy. The U.S. Treasury will put to market an $11 billion 10-year Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities reopening
