Fed meeting to take center stage as investors await policy clues
WEEKLY MARKET COMMENTARY |
The major announcement this week will likely be the publication of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) policy communiqué on Wednesday. The FOMC will possibly remove the word “patience” from its statement, which will signal to investors the central bank is preparing its next step in normalizing policy by raising interest rates, probably at its June or September meeting.
This week will also bring fresh data on regional manufacturing conditions, housing, international capital flows, first time jobless claims and consumer sentiment.
In the eurozone, the February consumer price index will be published along with the European Central Bank economic bulletin, which may garner considerable attention given deflation across the continent and the resumption of verbal barbs between Athens and Berlin over the status of Greek sovereign debt.
