IRS announces Business e-File system maintenance shutdown date

TAX ALERT  |

On Dec. 19, 2017, the IRS issued a QuickAlert, announcing that it will shut down its e-File system for business taxpayers for an undetermined length of time. The Modernized e-File (MeF) system will shut down on December 26, 2017, at 11:59 pm. At that time, the MeF system will stop accepting “send submissions.” The MeF Assurance Testing System will remain open through the production shutdown/cutover period.

This will be a planned shut down during which the IRS will perform maintenance that should enable the IRS to re-program the system and prepare for the upcoming tax-filing season.

The IRS has not yet announced the start-up date for the MeF system.

The IRS shut down its e-File system for individual filings on November 18, 2017. Information regarding individual e-file shutdown can be found here.
