New rules for US corporations doing business in Australia

US corporations doing business in Australia, as non-resident entities, may be able to take advantage of new rules which came into effect on Oct. 1, 2016, to reduce their GST compliance burden and deregister for GST. This mainly affects non-resident businesses supplying certain services to Australian resident businesses and introduces an extension of the reverse charge procedure.  The changes also extend the scope of zero-rating for certain services supplied from Australia to a non-resident customer.
